Meta: A list of movies to get the Halloween spirit going in you!

If there is one holiday to go all out for, aside from the most wonderful time of the year – Christmas if you don’t know the song, it is most certainly Halloween. The opportunity to make believe and become anything from an enchanted princess to a powerful superhero to a terrifying villain, is the stuff of fantasy, combine that with an intense, FREE, sugar rush and it’s no wonder that this holiday has become as mainstream as it has.

Here we have compiled a list of some of the best movies to get you and your family excited about trick or treating this year, don’t worry there are numerous options that are suitable for all age groups and not just the horror-loving teenager of yours.

For the younger generations

The Addams Family is always an option, while they may be odd, they’re outrageous and often downright weird antics, are more hilarious than frightening and certainly one for a trip down memory lane. The best part about this is, that there isn’t just one movie to indulge in but two and a cartoon series, educate your kids on what television used to be like.

‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’, after the Peanuts movie a few years ago, Snoopy has made a major comeback, and perhaps it’s time to introduce your children to the Peanuts of yesteryear. Watch Linus – a friend of Charlie Brown’s – wait for the Great Pumpkin on the night of Halloween, basically Halloween’s main man, like the Easter Bunny during the Easter Egg Hunt or Santa on Christmas morning.

Movies To Get In The Spirit For Halloween

An oldie but an absolute favorite of mine is Hocus Pocus, three witches are raised from the dead and try to regain the gifts of eternal youth on the night of Halloween by hunting down the children of their town. The movie also features an immortal cat and several teenagers who must save their town from the clutches of these three beauty-obsessed witches.

For those desperate to feel the fear

Now bearing in mind that there are those who enjoy feeling the blood hurtle out of their veins in an attempt to escape the television screen, we found some of the most terrifying movies for you to watch, hopefully without the younger members of the family in tow.

Sleepy Hollow, the 1999 classic featuring Johnny Depp amongst the rest of its star studded retinue, the movie follows Ichabod Crane who is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of murders purported to be committed by the Headless Horseman.

Evil Dead 2013, the reimagined version of the classic has, even more, shock horror moments than its predecessor. The movie showcases what happens when five friends head off to a remote cabin in the woods, the friends happen to find a Book of the Dead and then, unknowingly end up calling demons to unleash terror upon them. Definitely, one to give you screams.

Movies To Get In The Spirit For Halloween

Panic Room 2002, in the thriller movie, a recently divorced woman and her diabetic daughter take refuge in their houses panic room – while three men attempt to locate a missing fortune. Both terrifying and thought proving, worth the jitters.
