If the change of season hasn’t yet crept into the surrounding areas near you, then hopefully the new season appropriate clothes have. Well, even if spring hasn’t yet found its way near your town yet, all of the spring activities soon will. After all Easter was just here, and April Fool’s Day as well, soon summer will be here, as well as school holidays and then Independence Day. Oh, and how could we forget the arrival of spring means that pretty soon wedding season will be back on top, aren’t you excited?

Anyhow, we here at Sir Holiday are so excited at the prospect of Spring, that we wondered just how many interesting facts there were surrounding spring that we didn’t yet know. So pull up a chair, grab a glass of lemonade, ignore the chores and dive into all that the sunshine has to offer.

First things first, did you know that euphoria spinning through your veins right at the onset of this season, actually has a name. Yes, you my friend have contracted Spring Fever. This condition occurs when there is a rise in the surrounding temperature of your general environment after a noticeably cold few months. The sudden introduction of warmth leads the blood vessels to dilate, which causes a knock-on effect of slight light headedness known as Spring Fever.

Daylight savings time might be a common concept within today’s day and age, but it certainly was a unique idea back in 1784 when former US President Benjamin Franklin put forward the theory. However, despite the theory being postulated in 1784, daylight savings time was only adopted as a standard procedure during the Second World War, which was amount two hundred years later in 1942.

Spring serves an incredibly important function for the aviary community, newly born birds might be able to belt out a tune but they don’t yet know the lyrics to the anthem of their species. Therefore, during the spring after the birds hatch from their eggs, they get to work learning to sing their specific species theme song, this particular passing down of musical history can take around two months to complete.

Have any of you wondered what the first day of spring is called, or if there is even a first day of a season, well you can relax because we have found the answer. The very first day of spring is also known as the vernal equinox, vernal is a Latin word that means spring and equinox is also a latin word that has the meaning of equal day and night. One can’t help but wonder if every single season has their own specific starting day?

Now on to one of the most beloved aspects of spring, most notably the flora, the very first flowers to typically bloom within spring are daffodils, lilies, lilacs, tulips and irises. However, these are all dependent upon the geographic location and other environmental factors.
