CREATIVE DO-IT-YOURSELF IDEAS
Think traditional roses and chocolates are trite and boring? Maybe you want to go overboard with thoughtfulness this year. Here are some ideas for you to get your creativity on while being ultra-romantic. Whether you’re a DIY pro, or still working on improving, these thoughtful ideas are sure to be a huge hit with your loved one this Valentine’s Day!
If your loved one is hopping on the all-natural, indoor-plants trend, give them a potted succulent. Decorate it with a pun-tastic card that reads:
“I’m a succ-er for you!”
You can decorate the pot with paint or chalk if you want, or you can simply tie it up with ribbons and bows.
This is super easy and really thoughtful! All you’ll need are little strips of paper (any color you want), a pen or marker, a mason jar with a decorative label of your own design, and some good ideas.
Simply write little reasons that you care about that person and fold them up.
When you give the gift, explain that it’s something for your loved one to use on a bad day or when you get in an argument as a reminder of how much you two care about each other.
If you want to show your loved one that you’re extra sweet, pick up a bag of jumbo marshmallows and some kind of craft sticks. If you can’t get patterned or colored sticks, simply paint wooden dowels red, pink, striped, or any pattern you want!
Simply stick the marshmallows on the sticks and tie them a ribbon for decoration. Prop up in a mason jar or a glass bottle for a rustic touch. If you’re feeling like a gourmet chef, melt some chocolate chips, dip the marshmallows in it, and roll in some sprinkles or mini M&Ms.
If you know your loved one is a bookworm, this the perfect DIY gift.
Start with a square of paper or cardstock (preferably red, pink, or patterned).
Feel free to decorate with some thumbprint hearts by dipping your thumb in red or pink paint.
You’ll need a glass mason jar, a bag of lemon drops, and maybe some pink ribbon or twine for you to tie around the jar as decoration. You’ll also want a piece of cardstock, cardboard, or just paper to write or print a cute message on. The best way to make good use of this particular gift is to write “PUCKER UP” and leave a lipstick kiss (or at least draw a heart) on it. The assembly is simple: just dump the lemon drops in the jar and decorate as you please!
These are an adorable addition to a card (or some kind of decoration to a larger gift) Best of all, they’re fairly simple to make.
You’ll need:
All you need to do is hot glue the googly eyes to the pompoms and then hot glue the foam hearts to toothpicks. You should be able to stick the toothpicks right into the pom-poms, but you can always use glue if you need. If you are using foam sheets, simply cut out the heart antennae yourself and use glue to stick them on.
These make great paperweights or just decorations to leave around the house.
All you need is clear glass stones, and to print a few phrases out on printer paper. When it comes to selecting the color of paper you will use, consider using pink paper; or as an alternative, use white paper and color it pink with a highlighter or a colored pencil.
Use Elmer’s glue and a paintbrush to coat the bottom of the stone and press the paper on.
It’s a good idea to make sure the printouts are a little bit smaller than the stone itself so you can add a second layer of glue over the paper to keep it smooth. You can put any phrase you want on the paper, but a good idea is to write cute prompts about your relationship like “Night out or night in?” or “Most memorable moment.” Have some fun and get creative!
