You will be hard-pressed to find a more idolised city than Paris, when it comes to love the French just seem to have it down more than others. Hence the fact that Valentine’s Day is fast around the corner means that is time to fall in love with France all over again – as if you aren’t already, and we at Sir Holiday thought what better way to get you in the mood than with some facts. Facts about what, I hear you ask? Well, facts concerning love and more specifically lovein the great and overly romanticized nation that is France. Without any further ado, let’s take a hop, skip and a jump right on over to France.

Valentine’s Day in France

France has one of the highest numbers of citizens who choose to buy into the holiday of love, with a staggering 71% of adults claiming to celebrate the day of La Saint-Valentin. The total amount of money spent by the average Frenchman or woman on a gift for their someone special is €50. The most popular gifts include some of the more traditional items, such as red roses and chocolates in a heart shaped box.

However there are a couple more unique traditions for the day of love than merely chocolates and flowers, the area within the Indre is home to a village known as the Village of St. Valentin which attracts many romantics each year eager to celebrate the 14th of February’s special history and purpose. During this particular time of the year, the whole town becomes bedecked with flowers of all kinds, but mainly red roses. In addition, many also choose to bask in the love of this day and take the next step in their lives by tying the knot.

Other love themed activities that you and your partner can engage in while you are off in the Indre include sticking little paper notes of you and your partner’s vows to one another. Or you can plant a tree that will hopefully stand the testament of time just like your love story or perhaps you can place a heart with the two of your initials on the Tree of Eternal Hearts. Maybe even put a lock on a bridge, just embrace the cheesiness and go wholeheartedly into the love theme while on France, not everywhere is as romantic as this country or is it?

Valentine’s Day in France

Well, that is another question for us at Sir Holiday to tackle, however you might be wondering if France had anything more to do with Valentine’s Day than making it all the more special. The answer to that is yes, in the Middle Ages within both France and England, it was thought to be common knowledge that all birds and small mammals got together within the middle of the month of February to breed for the upcoming year. This was known as the season of love, this probably had a strong bearing on the fact that Valentine’s Day’s date is on the 14th of February which is the middle of February – if you ignore leap years that is.
